What is Transit Week?

Iowa’s public transit systems continue to get you where you need to go.

Operating in all 99 counties, Iowa’s public transit systems have provided more than 126 million rides during the past five years. Iowans embrace the convenience and enjoy the benefits of public transportation. Iowans use public transit to get to work, to go to school, to achieve mobility necessary to accommodate medical needs, and maintain an independent lifestyle all while supporting Iowa jobs and strengthening local economies.

Public transit provides mobility, opportunities, and independence for Iowans. Transit Week is a campaign designed to highlight the continued success of public transit in Iowa, and to recognize the continued efforts of our public transit operators.

Each day during the week of July 18th, we'll be showcasing a different aspect of Iowa's public transit systems:

• Day 1: Workforce Rides
• Day 2: Academic Rides
• Day 3: Medical Rides
• Day 4: Electric Buses
• Day 5: Hats Off To Transit Drivers

Another goal of Transit Week is to spread the word about the systems that operate across the state and to grow our network of riders.
